Company profile
Power Logic is a company specialising in
providing power and voice/data solutions to the furniture trade. The
company was conceived out of a concept for the provision of a dual
office power system with the ability to expand simplistically, as well
as interface at the users option between a normal and a clean supply
line. The system was designed for and sold to the largest insurance
company in South Africa very successfully. It soon became apparent that
the system had potential from an international perspective. Sockets were
thus developed to cater for all these markets and activities undertaken
to establish distribution and agency channels.
One of the first markets considered beyond South Africa, where the
system is manufactured, was the UK. Whilst the dual power system was
well received conceptually within the UK, certain inherent differences
and complications became apparent. Initially size, and secondly, price,
were the major obstacles. The major focus and market thrust up until
that juncture, 1991 and early 1992, was to forge long standing
relationships with the larger furniture manufacturers where volumes and
thus economies of scale would have assisted in reducing at least the
overall pricing. It became obvious that the only way to sell this
product, known as our MKI, was to cultivate and sell its features and
benefits to end user customers, which was achieved very successfully.
However, it has always been the objective of Power Logic to establish
ongoing relationships with the major furniture companies in the UK as
this is where we perceive stability and growth can be obtained.
Accordingly, it was decided to embark upon designing and developing a
new range of socket modules that would be able to compete more
favourably from all respects within the UK and other markets. This
brought about the launch of our MKII or Oblique series range of power
sockets in September 1992. Interestingly, both systems have now won
International awards. The MKI system received an award in 1989 from
Telemecanique (France) for innovation in design of products below 1000
Volts. The Oblique product received the 15th International Award for
Technology and Quality in 1994.
The focus of Power Logic has now shifted somewhat onto the supply and
support of the MKII range whilst continuing to support the MKI for
clients with these products. This has meant that the original objective
of forging relationships with the major furniture companies has now, by
and large, been achieved which has resulted in 90% of our business being
conducted with OEM companies or their distributors and agents.
Company Structure
Power Logic Europe is part of a family of Power Logic
companies/dealers/agents throughout the world. The company is set up as a
marketing and distribution operation to support the supply of the Power
Logic range of socket outlets and ancillary components accross Europe.
To ensure a high level of quality and support, Powerlogic Europe has an
exclusive license agreement to market and distribute the range of Power
Logic products within the licensed area.

South America, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia,

Manufacturing Facilities
The manufacturing facilities for the entire Power Logic range of
products are based in Cape Town, South Africa. The manufacturing
operation has been in existence since 1982 and recently expanded into 2
new factories, comprising 10,000 sq. feet to cater for growth of the
international demand for the Power Logic range. The operation comprises
of Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Research and Development, Moulding,
Mechanical Engineering, Tooling, and Administration.
The major strength of the manufacturing company is its synergy in
vertical integration. All componentry for the Power Logic range is
designed, tooled and manufactured in-house except for a few proprietary
components such as the Wieland connectors, fuse holders and switches
which are imported from Germany and the UK. All precision moulds and
progressive tools are made in their modern tool room.
This is complimented by a fully computerised injection moulding
department, equipped with the very latest moulding machines ranging from
25 to 140 tons.
Presently, manufacturing capacity at 60-65% efficiency will produce in
the region of 850 to 1000 4 way socket modules per normal shift. This
can be increased to 1250 units per day in a normal shift and between
2500 and 3000 units in a double shift. The total work force at the
manufacturing facility at present is in excess of 60 personnel.
The group have adopted a policy to concentrate solely on power and cable
management. This policy of non-diversification has allowed the
dedication of resources in order to become international players in the
office electrics market.
The manufacturing facility has been certified to ISO9002. Furthermore,
it is group policy to ensure that all the relevant standards of
compliance are met in any particular market before becoming actively
engaged in any trade. For Europe the main certifications are TUV and
Brittish Standards.
